I’ve Got A Few Summer Travel Ideas

This entry was posted on Jan 31 2010

If you are like me, you are watching your travel budget carefully, asking where you can go that’s interesting but affordable. You might put a Southern California vacation on your list. It’s got the beaches, theme parks, roller coasters, Hollywood and lots more.

Another possibility would be Hawaii. Although those warm beaches are hard to resist, there’s not as much variety in vacation options as California. Check this out for a brief comparison between Southern California vacations and vacations in Hawaii. In Southern California you don’t need to worry as much about underwater rocks; also, the humidity is generally lower and the sunshine less intimidating. The water temperature is higher in the Aloha state, but in the middle of summer, the cooler water can be more refreshing.

A Hawaiian vacation does offer beautiful subtropical vegetation and fascinating Polynesian cultural experiences. However, the California coastline, mountains and desert are quite beautiful as well, and the place is a melting pot of cultural diversity.

Southern California offers much more than great beaches. Don’t forget about the seven world-class theme parks waiting for your visit. If you are a fan of roller coasters, you really need to visit Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain. You’ll discover many intimidating coasters and thrill rides at Knott’s and Six Flags. In fact, they offer more thrill rides than Disneyland, although the Magic Kingdom does include some fast attractions such as the Matterhorn and Space Mountain.

You won’t find many roller coasters in Hawaii, although surfing on the North Shore of Oahu in winter would qualify as a thrill ride. California is probably a more budget-friendly summer travel option, but now and then you really do need to get over to Hawaii.
