If you are interested in news and comment and I asked you to define general reports found on a normal topic, what would you say? Come on. Tell me. Want me to assume? You imagine general information as news that is latest and is put up for the general public containing advertising for people typically keen on authors, or, you may assume general news as worldwide news that all the people in the world can connect with. For instance, the latest oil spill is general news since it involved so many countries, or maybe the past recession, since it had an effect on more than half of the lands in the whole world. If you presume that, then you are correct with what you think about general news.
For a much better meaning, general news is a type of news that is written for the common people. This means, everyone can connect with it. As a writer, it is hard to write general news that is because you must analyze on matters that not only people in a certain area can relate to, but people all throughout the world can relate to. The two mentioned above are clear, since a lot of countries are involved. However, it is not day by day that a bank mismanages its funds, or when an oil leak occurs, threatening about half of the population of the world’s marine living beings.
So, as a columnist who is tasked to compose general news, you need to think carefully about what you are going to deliver, and you need to do widespread research first. This is since your readers is the whole world, there is no room for mistake, and if you cause one, or write anything that is false, then it will surely affect the newspaper that you are writing for.
All in all, when writing blogs about everything, you should be careful of two very simple entities, your subject and relation to the entire world. So, whatever happened in Hawaii that isn’t something most important isn’t worthy for general news.
