Springer Spaniel – Beloved Companions and Friends
Springer Spaniel is an intelligent dog who catch on to new things easily. Being highly enthusiastic, eager to please, loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented makes the Springer an ideal companion for both city and country life. Playful and energetic, the Springer Spaniel can bring its owner many hours of amusement. With proper training the can excel in agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are the perfect choice for families because they are so wonderful with children. Children should be supervised with all breeds of dogs.
The Springer brand of dogs are generally friendly and always looking to make their owners happy. There are people who use the sweet temperament of a Golden Retriever to describe the Springer’s personality. If it is what their families are doing, they are perfectly content with just laying around the house. Human contact helps them to adjust and adapt to different levels of activity. Springer Spaniels are incredibly affectionate! We know this from experience. As breeders, we have raised a lot of puppies and can absolutely testify to this fact.
As a breed, the English Springer Spaniel is a medium sized sporting dog, and can weigh anywhere from 35-55 pounds at adulthood. They are typically healthy dogs that live happy lives that average about 10-14 years on average. Springers which are field bred have shorter hair and are generally more active than the show type Springers. Field bred Springers have docked tails, but their tails are docked longer than the show Springers so their tails are still functional as an alert signal while hunting.
English Springer Spaniels generally have two different variations of colored fur which are either black and white or liver and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. These are easily recognised by the white flash that runs down the middle of their faces.
Bred to be natural hunter, English Springer Spaniels, have alot of energy so you can expect them to enjoy running aroung, sniffing out “game” and retrieving things for you. Springers love the water and would enjoy spending the entire day outside with their owners as they are not especially affected by weather. Because they are an old breed, they have been a favorite canine for many years. These dogs are the oldest but best hunting breed around.
